# Probe installation

Installing an outdoor temperature and humidity sensor requires protecting the electronics while ensuring that the probe is ideally exposed for accurate measurement.

## Probe positioning (IP68)

Since the probe is IP68-rated, it resists immersion, but to measure outdoor air, it must be protected from thermal errors.

* **Radiation shield** : To prevent the sun from skewing the measurements (by heating the probe body), it is strongly recommended to place the probe inside a cup weather shield (naturally ventilated shield).
* **Distance from walls** : Do not place the probe against the wall, as the building's thermal inertia would distort the data. Use the cable to move it a few centimeters away.

## Sealing and connection

* **Cable gland** : Tighten the cable gland firmly around the sensor cable to ensure the enclosure's IP65 rating.
* **Drip loop** : Form a slight loop with the cable just before it enters the cable gland (the cable goes lower than the entry point and then rises). This way, rainwater will fall at the lowest point of the loop instead of following the cable into the enclosure.

Although the enclosure is IP65-rated (protection against water jets), it contains the electronics and the battery.

* **Sun protection** : Preferably mount it on a north-facing wall or in a shaded area. Direct exposure to sunlight could overheat the enclosure and reduce battery life.
* **Cable orientation** : Always position the enclosure so that the cable gland points downward. This prevents rainwater from running down the cable and seeping inside.
