# Antenna

To ensure optimal communication and maximize radio performance, antenna placement is crucial.

## Why relocate the antenna?

The g*ateway* is often installed inside BMS (Building Management System) electrical cabinets. These metal enclosures act like a Faraday cage, blocking or significantly weakening radio signals.

* **Reduced interference** : Relocating the antenna makes it possible to move it away from electromagnetic disturbances generated by power equipment.
* **Increased range** : An antenna placed outside the cabinet ensures maximum coverage for your LoRaWAN sensors.

The long-range antenna (**ANT REN SMA LR 868 1000-008**) connects directly to the dedicated port on the Gateway:<br>

1. Screw the antenna's SMA connector onto the Gateway base.
2. Tighten firmly by hand (do not use pliers so as not to crush the connector).
3. Place the antenna as high as possible, ideally outside the cabinet or technical room.

For **optimal** **performance**, keep the antenna in **a** **vertical** position and avoid placing it against a metal surface.
